2. Hero MotoCorp’s EV brand ‘Vida’ to launch battery subscription model.

In an effort to make electric scooters more accessible & affordable, Hero MotoCorp Vida is all set to introduce subscription-based Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. This scheme will be launched alongside Vida’s new electric scooter, the Vida VX2, on July 1st, 2025. The company’s aim is to significantly lower the entry barrier for electric scooter buyers in the country by removing battery ownership from the scooter’s purchase cost. The BaaS model will feature a flexible 'pay-as-you-go' subscription system, allowing buyers to finance the scooter & battery separately.

3. Reports of central government planning a task force on digitization of the power sector.

In March 2025, Nilekani tweeted: “Energy is the next UPI. Millions of small producers will participate in the Digital Energy Grid (DEG).” The Digital Energy Grid is envisioned as an open, interoperable energy marketplace similar to UPI. It will allow decentralized energy production, storage & trading through a digital mesh powered by the Unified Energy Interface (UEI). To learn more about UEI, visit What is UEI? Nilekani’s involvement comes at a time when India is facing escalating energy demand and looking to improve the efficiency & sustainability of its energy delivery mechanisms. If successful, this move could have long-term economic & environmental benefits, preparing the ground for a participatory digital energy economy. Nilekani added, “Every home will be an energy producer because they have rooftop solar. Every home will be an energy store because they have an EV battery. So, every home is a producer of energy, a seller of energy & a buyer of energy. So, like UPI, you will now be able to buy & sell energy.”
