After securing the investment, Kazam gave statements for the three investors:

“International Finance Corporation (IFC)’s investment in Kazam is more than funding. It’s a signal of trust in India’s EV potential, and in our ability to build infrastructure that’s digital-first, inclusive and built to scale.”

“Grateful to have Avaana Capital on this journey, partners who believe in unlocking climate resilience through tech-first infrastructure. Their continued support strengthens our mission to accelerate EV adoption and power mobility with smarter systems.”

Vertex Ventures SE Asia & India has been part of our story from the early chapters. Their continued conviction in Kazam’s vision: of building a full-stack, scalable EV infra platform for the world, is a quiet, steady force behind our momentum.”

Launched in 2020, Kazam offers device-agnostic solutions for EV charging & battery swapping, serving Charge Point Operators (CPOs), vehicle OEMs, fleet operators & grid companies. Kazam has facilitated over 5 million charging sessions, managed 68,000+ chargers and enabled 45 GWh of energy while avoiding 46,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. As a Founding Alliance Member of the Unified Energy Interface (UEI), Kazam leverages the Beckn Protocol to create a UPI-like energy platform. The new investment strengthens Kazam’s leadership in building a scalable, sustainable EV ecosystem, addressing range anxiety and supporting India’s energy transition.

4. US declares ‘power emergency’ in south eastern states due to heatwave.

United States has issued an emergency order to address potential electricity shortages in south eastern US. The decision is a response to heightened power demand due to heatwave. The order empowers select electricity generating units to operate at peak output levels. With temperatures expected to exceed 38°C (100°F) across south & south east US, residents are heavily reliant on air conditioners, driving-up electricity consumption.

Duke Energy, which provides electricity for most of the affected region, informed the Department of Energy (DoE) that it might struggle to meet demand and warned that powercuts may be necessary. On the same day, New York experienced blackouts as local utilities urged consumers to conserve energy. The new order allows Duke Energy to exceed air pollution limits and implement additional measures to help diminish blackout risks and increase power generation in response to the escalated demand.

5. Evera Cabs raises $4 million for fleet expansion.

As its fleet size expands (supported by the acquisition of a portion of BluSmart’s cabs), Evera is looking to increase its airport operations. The company has so far operated only from Terminal 3 of the Delhi Airport, but now plans to expand its services to Terminal 1 while also consolidating at the existing terminal.

Airport pickups account for 55% of Evera’s total bookings, with an average trip costing around Rs 600. Compared to April, airport trips for the platform increased six-fold in May. Evera has already acquired over 600 electric cabs (a mix of Tata Tigor EVs, Citroen eC3 & MG ZS EVs) from BluSmart, with plans to acquire 1000 cabs more.
