1. Multiple Tata Group companies collaborate with Tesla.
Multiple Tata Group companies, including Tata AutoComp, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Technologies & Tata Electronics, have joined hands with Tesla and are now part of Tesla's global supply chain. These tie-ups will position the Tata Group as a major Tesla partner as the latter prepares to enter the Indian market. Tata’s involvement is expected to grow even more if Tesla decides to set-up a local manufacturing unit in the country.
2. Hero MotoCorp enters India’s electric three-wheeler market.
Hero MotoCorp has acquired a significant share in EV manufacturer Euler Motors. This investment paves the way for Hero MotoCorp to enter India’s rapidly growing electric three-wheeler market.
The company has invested Rs 525 crore in Euler Motors to acquire a 32.5% stake. India’s commercial EV space already has two of Hero MotoCorp’s main competitors TVS and Bajaj.
3. New EV charging stations to come up in Jammu & Kashmir.
A network of EV charging stations will soon come up in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). The charging network will have a regulated tariff system aimed at ensuring affordable charging for users. The tariff system will include lower charging rates during solar hours to incentivize users to charge their EVs when renewable energy production is at its peak.
A nodal agency will be set-up to oversee the development of this charging network in J&K, ensuring that installations comply with national policies & guidelines.
4. Tesla working on a 24-hour ‘entertainment complex’ with EV charging facilities.
Tesla is working on an idea to help EV owners pass time while charging: an entertainment complex that includes a restaurant, a theater and a large EV charging station. At the Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles, EV owners will be able to watch a movie or enjoy a meal while their EVs charge. The image below shows the complex under construction:
In 2023, Elon Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter), that Tesla will build such a facility in Los Angeles, which he described as ‘Grease meets Jetsons with Supercharging’. Construction on the entertainment project began recently at Santa Monica Boulevard (LA), which is part of the iconic Route 66. Hiring for the facility has already begun. Under a job posting titled ’Diner Experience Specialist’, the company is looking for various people in and around the LA area to work alongside the Charging Operations team and provide ‘exceptional customer experience at the Tesla Diner’. There is still no official date as to when Tesla will inaugurate the facility. However, once it begins operations, the complex will be open 24/7.
5. Nitin Gadkari predicts EV prices to be same as petrol vehicles within 6 months.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari recently stated that prices of electric vehicles (EVs) will be equal to prices of petrol vehicles in the country within the next 6 months. While many may think this to be a rather ambitious claim, achieving price parity between conventional fuel-powered vehicles and EVs can really be a possibility with heavy localization. The minister has long been an advocate for EVs.
Apart from this, the minister also talked about mass commercial transport on electricity at the 32nd Convergence India and 10th Smart Cities India Expo 2025 held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.
