1. New Maharashtra EV Policy 2025 aims to strengthen EV charging infrastructure.
State Government of Maharashtra has agreed upon the new EV Policy 2025 (for a five year period), which aims to increase the share of EV registrations to 30% of all new vehicle registrations by 2030. With an outlay of Rs 1995 crore, the new EV policy also aims to strengthen the state's EV charging infrastructure. The 2021 EV policy had an outlay of Rs 930 crore for a four year period.
The new policy offers 10% subsidy on base prices for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, non-transport four-wheelers, State Transport electric buses & private transport e-buses. For cargo electric three-wheelers, transport four-wheelers, light & heavy goods carrier EVs and electric tractors, the subsidy will be 15%. Maharashtra government has also decided to make key highways toll free for EVs. These include the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway) and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu). Agreements will be signed with oil marketing companies (OMCs) to set-up EV charging stations at petrol pumps. All State Transport bus depots too will have EV charging infrastructure and dedicated space for electric bus parking & charging. Municipal Corporations in the state will also be directed to set aside 1% of their annual budget to fund EV charging infrastructure.
Akshay Shekhar, CEO and Co-Founder, Kazam gave a statement regarding this: “Maharashtra’s new EV policy is truly ambitious & inclusive. By addressing charging point shortages in older housing societies and opening bus depots for public charging of two & three-wheelers, it solves real world problems faced by delivery & fleet drivers. At Kazam, we have seen how reliable charging access boosts earnings and streamlines operations. This thoughtful approach not only fosters cleaner cities but also propels the entire EV ecosystem forward, and we’re proud to support it.”
