1. Goa to get multiple EV charging stations very soon.

The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has launched a new initiative to develop an EV charging network in the state’s capital Panaji. A total of 40 locations have been shortlisted for the same. At present, 3 EV charging stations with 9 charging guns for light electric vehicles are operational, and 8 more stations will be ready by mid-February. All stations will support both slow & fast EV charging.

2. Automakers prioritizing manufacturing EV batteries locally.

Tata Motors:

Tata Motors is working on locally manufactured EV batteries to maintain its competitive edge in the Indian electric car market. Tata Group's investment of $1.5 billion to establish a battery gigafactory in India is a big step in this direction and the automaker aims to become a ‘vertically integrated manufacturer’. Last year, Tata Group announced plans to set-up battery manufacturing units in Sanand (Gujarat), and in Somerset (UK). Tata Group company ‘Agratas’, which specializes in high-performance battery development, plans to expand its battery portfolio. At present, the company’s clientele includes Tata Group companies Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) & Tata Motors. Agratas plans to begin lithium-ion cell production in 2026, with full production expected to commence by 2028.

Hyundai India:

Hyundai is also looking to localize EV battery packs assembly in India. As part of its localization strategy, Hyundai India’s plant in Chennai now has the capacity to assemble 75,000 battery packs per year. These include NMC & LFP battery packs. The automaker is working with Mobis India to assemble battery packs locally at a newly commissioned facility in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu. The Creta Electric is Hyundai’s first electric car to feature locally assembled battery packs from the new facility.

3. Axis Capital & Nomura make predictions related to EV penetration in India.

Axis Capital:

A recent report by Axis Capital states that EV penetration will increase significantly in the next 3 years in India mainly due to ‘reliable models, competitive prices & expanding EV charging networks’. The report states that the launch of more credible models at attractive price points and potential expansion of EV charging networks will drive higher EV penetration over the next 3 years. Axis Capital further stated that this growth will be fueled by ‘an expanding portfolio of EV offerings that cater to a wider audience’. The analysis was based on the recently-concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The report added that the 2025 Auto Expo was dominated by EV launches.
