1. BYD SeaLion 7 launched. Prices start from Rs 48.90 lakh.

BYD India has launched the SeaLion 7 electric SUV. It will be offered in 2 variants: Premium & Performance, priced at Rs 48.90 lakh & Rs 54.90 lakh respectively.

Both variants will feature an 82.56 kWh battery and a claimed driving range of 542 km (for Performance variant) & 567 km (for Premium variant). The Performance variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 4.5 seconds. The Premium variant can do the same in 6.7 seconds. When it comes to design, the Sealion 7 has a few similarities with the BYD Seal electric sedan. Features include a 15.6 inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25 inch driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, 12 speaker sound system, an 8 way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 11 airbags & a 360 degree camera setup. The BYD SeaLion 7 comes with a complimentary 7 kW EV charger.

BYD had unveiled the SeaLion at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The company also started bookings at the expo. The deliveries will start 7 March 2025 onwards.

2. Plug N Ride Motors launch electric motorcycles.

Plug N Ride Motors recently launched two electric motorcycles. The new models are named APKE PNR 100 & APKE PNR 200, and have been developed indigenously. The EVs have also been tested by NATRAX, ensuring high safety & performance standards (NATRAX is an automotive testing & certification centre under the Ministry of Heavy Industries). Both the electric motorcycles have a top speed of 70 km/hr and a claimed range of 120km. These EVs are fast charging compatible.

Plug N Ride is positioning the APKE electric motorcycles for both B2B & retail sales. The base model has been priced at Rs 99,000.

3. Tesla to start sales in India soon. Begins hiring as well.

There are reports that Tesla has shortlisted locations for setting-up 2 showrooms in India, at Delhi NCR & Mumbai. Tesla has reportedly finalized a place in the Aerocity area near Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport for a showroom. In Mumbai, Tesla has reportedly selected a space in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area. Tesla plans to import and sell its electric cars in India and these 2 showrooms will be company operated. Tesla has also posted job openings for mid-level roles in India, for sales and operations related posts.

4. Mahindra receives more than 30,000 bookings for its recently launched electric SUVs.

Mahindra’s recently launched electric SUVs, the XEV 9e & BE 6, have received a staggering 30,179 bookings. These translate into a booking value of Rs 8472 crore. Between the 2 cars, the larger XEV 9e secured 56% of the total bookings (16,900 units), and the BE 6 secured the remaining 44% (13,279 units). The majority of the bookings (73% to be precise) opted for the top-spec 'Pack 3' variant, which features the long-range 79kWh battery pack.

Mahindra started bookings for the two electric SUVs on February 14. Customers who have booked Pack 3 variants of both cars will be the first to receive their EVs in mid-March. Prices for the Mahindra BE 6 start from Rs 18.90 lakh and go up to Rs 26.90 lakh. The Mahindra XEV 9e has been priced between Rs 21.90 lakh to Rs 30.50 lakh.

5. Kazam partners with Malaysia based EV charging company QuickCharge.

Kazam has entered into a strategic partnership with Malaysia’s QuickCharge. The partnership involves Kazam’s CMS and scaling QuickCharge’s EV charging network in Malaysia. This collaboration further expands Kazam’s presence in Southeast Asia, after successful deployments in Myanmar, Bangladesh & Mauritius.

QuickCharge has already deployed 100 EV chargers since adopting Kazam’s solutions, which include an app and dashboard access to manage each EV charger. A Quick Charge spokesperson gave a statement: “We chose Kazam as our technology partner because of their proven track record in delivering scalable, user-friendly & intelligent EV charging solutions.” QuickCharge has also started a trial phase of Kazam’s Dynamic Tariff feature. This feature allows flexible pricing based on different parameters such as time of day, state of charge, etc.
