1. New EV charging station inaugurated in Chennai.
A fast EV charging station has been inaugurated at Express Avenue Mall in Chennai. The charging station features two 60 kW chargers & three ‘3-in-1’ chargers, offering compatibility with all kinds of EVs.
The Express Avenue Mall is one of Chennai’s largest shopping malls and attracts an average of 35,000 visitors daily.
2. Rivian and Ben & Jerry’s team up for an electric ice cream truck.
US-based EV manufacturer Rivian and ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s have teamed for an electric ice cream truck. Named the ‘Scoop Truck’, it will debut in Austin, Texas in March 2025.
The electric truck is based on Rivian’s Commercial Van which has been deployed by Amazon as cargo vans. After its exclusivity agreement with Amazon expired, Rivian has started partnering with other companies, one of them being Ben & Jerry’s.
3. Revolt Motors launches the RV BlazeX electric motorcycle.
Revolt Motors has announced the launch of an electric motorcycle, the RV BlazeX. The BlazeX comes with a 3.24 kWh removable battery which offers a range of 150 km. It supports both slow & fast charging. With fast charging, its battery can charge from 0-80% in 80 minutes. With a standard home charger, it takes 3 hours 30 minutes.
The removable battery tech allows EV owners to detach the battery and charge it wherever they want. The new electric bike comes with features like 6-inch LCD screen, three riding modes, reverse mode, regenerative braking and app connectivity for GPS. The Revolt RV BlazeX has been priced at Rs 1.15 lakh.
4. Tesla officially rents space in Mumbai for its 1st showroom in India.
Tesla has rented a 4000 sq ft space (almost the size of a basketball court) in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) near Mumbai Airport. Tesla will be paying a rent of around Rs 35 lakh per month for the space which will house its 1st showroom in India. The lease agreement is for a period of 5 years and the monthly rental will go up to around Rs 43 lakh per month (with a 5% rent escalation per year). A security deposit of Rs 2.11 crore has been paid. The property is located next to India's first Apple Store.
It was recently reported that Tesla had shortlisted locations for two showrooms in India: in Mumbai (BKC) and in New Delhi (Aerocity). Tesla has also started hiring for various roles in India.
5. Ultraviolette launches an electric scooter and an electric motorcycle.
Ultraviolette Automotive has launched two new electric vehicles: the Tesseract electric scooter and the Shockwave lightweight electric motorcycle. The Ultraviolette Tesseract electric scooter offers a range of 261 km. It can accelerate from 0-60 km/hr in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 125 km/hr.
The Ultraviolette Shockwave is a lightweight electric motorcycle. It offers a range of 165 km. The bike can accelerate from 0-60 km/hr in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 120 km/hr.
The Tesseract e-scooter is priced at a Rs 1.2 lakh for the first 10,000 customers, after which it will be priced at Rs 1.45 lakh. The Shockwave e-motorcycle is priced at Rs 1.49 lakh for the first 1000 customers, after which it will be priced at Rs 1.75 lakh. At present, Ultraviolette has showrooms in 13 cities in the country. The company plans to expand its footprint to 50 cities by FY2026.
