1. New fast EV charging station inaugurated in Hyderabad.

A fast EV charging station has been inaugurated at National Mineral Development Corporation’s (NMDC) headquarters in Hyderabad. The station will be open for general public as well.

More such facilities will come up at other NMDC offices & mining sites. At mining sites, the charging stations will be independent of the grid and will be powered by methanol & ethanol.

2. MG launches the Comet EV Blackstorm edition.

MG India has launched the MG Comet EV Blackstorm edition at Rs 7.80 lakh + battery rental of Rs 2.5 per km. Without the battery rental scheme, the car (with the battery pack) has been priced at Rs 9.81 lakh. Bookings for this special edition are now open with a token amount of Rs 11,000. The new Comet EV Blackstorm has been positioned as the new top-end variant of the Comet by MG.

Apart from the black exterior, MG Comet EV Blackstorm gets a special interior as well. The insides feature an all-black scheme with the word ‘Blackstorm’ embroidered in red on the leatherette seats. As far as specifications are concerned, there are no changes. The car continues to sport a 17.4 kWh battery which supports DC fast charging.The claimed range is 230 km.

3. JBM Auto secures a mega order of 1021 electric buses.

JBM Ecolife Mobility, a subsidiary of JBM Auto, has secured a mega order for 1021 electric buses under the PM eBus Sewa Scheme. The order is valued at Rs 5500 crore. The electric buses will be deployed in 19 cities across 3 states (Gujarat, Maharashtra & Haryana).

JBM Auto has also announced the incorporation of a new wholly-owned subsidiary ‘JBM EV Ventures’, which will offer EV battery rental/lease services to customers on a subscription basis. The new subsidiary is yet to start business operations.

4. EV financing company VidyutTech raises fresh funds.

EV financing company VidyutTech has raised $2.5 million from global venture capital firm ’Flourish Ventures’. Vidyut has so far raised a total of $16.5 million from investors such as 3one4 Capital, Credit Saison, Zephyr Peacock and Lighthouse Canton. With the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model adopted by the company, costs for batteries & EVs are decoupled, allowing customers to pay for battery services based on the number of kilometers driven. This scheme is expected to reduce the initial cost of EVs by 35-40%. Vidyut has tied-up with leading EV players like MG, Tata Motors, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Piaggio and Euler Motors.

With Vidyut’s 15% month-on-month growth, and long-term partnerships with big automakers, the new funding will help the company scale its innovative EV financing business. Apart from EV financing, VidyutTech has also entered the EV resale and lifecycle management arena.

5. Oben Electric kicks off new initiative to promote its Rorr EZ electric motorcycle.

Electric motorcycle manufacturer Oben Electric has launched 'Rorr on Campus', a new initiative designed to promote electric mobility among youth through ‘hands-on experiences, expert interactions and immersive engagements’. The campaign will be carried out at 10 leading colleges in Delhi & Jaipur, where students will explore Oben Electric’s latest offering, the Oben Rorr EZ electric motorcycle. Apart from the bike, the company will also talk about up EV charging. As part of the initiative, Oben will set-up ‘EV experience zones’ at campuses, allowing students to test ride the Oben Rorr EZ. The company will also offer a special discount of Rs 10,000 to the students. The Oben Rorr EZ is offered in 3 battery options: 2.6 kWh, 3.4 kWh & 4.4 kWh. The claimed range for the variants are 110 km, 140 km & 175 km respectively. The variants are priced at Rs 89,999, Rs 99,999 & Rs 1,09,999 respectively.
