1. Ola Electric launches the Roadster X electric motorcycle.
Ola Electric has launched the Roadster X electric motorcycle. Two variants, Roadster X & Roadster X+, have been introduced.
The Roadster X will be available in 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh & 4.5 kWh battery options, and the Roadster X+ will come in 4.5 kWh & 9.1 kWh battery options.
Prices for the Roadster X (2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh & 4.5 kWh) are Rs 74,999, Rs 84,999 & Rs 94,999, respectively. Prices for the Roadster X+ (4.5 kWh & 9.1 kWh) are Rs 1,04,999 & Rs 1,54,999, respectively. Deliveries for the Roadster series are set to begin mid-March.
2. VinFast confirms its two-door electric car 'VF 3' for the Indian market.
The recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 saw the debut of VinFast. Now, the Vietnam-based automaker has confirmed that its most affordable electric car, the VinFast VF 3, will come to India in 2026.
The VinFast VF 3 features a boxy two-door design somewhat similar to the MG Comet EV. The global-spec VF 3 comes with a single battery option of 18.64 kWh which gives a range of 215 km. It is fast-charging compatible and can juice up from 10-70% in 36 minutes. The India-spec VinFast VF 3 is expected to be priced around Rs 10 lakh. Globally, the VinFast VF 3 comes with a battery subscription plan similar to what MG is offering in India. If such a subscription plan is brought to India as well, prices can go even lower. Upon launch, it will compete with the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV.
3. FlixBus begins electric bus service between Hyderabad & Vijayawada.
International travel tech company FlixBus flagged-off its electric bus service on the busy Hyderabad-Vijayawada route. The is part of the company’s pilot project involving 4 electric buses plying on this route. In this period, FlixBus will assess battery performance, charging & booking patterns. The buses are equipped with dashcams, GPS & ADAS for passenger safety. 240kW heavy-duty EV chargers will juice-up the buses at depots. The journey is expected to take around 5 hours, and the bus can accommodate 49 passengers. The initial promotional fare is just Rs 99. Plans are also in place to introduce sleeper coach buses in the near future.
FlixBus India has started this service in collaboration with ETO Motors. The parent company ‘Flix’ operates in more than 40 countries across 4 continents.
4. OPG Mobility (formerly Okaya EV) announces a new referral scheme for customers.
OPG Mobility (formerly known as Okaya EV), has announced a customer referral scheme for existing Ferrato owners who help bring in new customers. The scheme has been named ‘Silent Miles’ and it involves a Rs 1000 cashback to current Ferrato electric scooter owners when they successfully refer a new customer. A matching cashback of Rs 1000 will also be given to the new customer upon purchase. The referral program can be accessed online where existing customers can share their unique referral codes with the new customer via WhatsApp. The company has placed no cap on the number of referrals an individual can make, and rewards will be credited directly to the customer’s bank account.
The announcement comes a few days after the company launched its Ferrato Defy 22 electric scooter at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
5. PM Narendra Modi to meet Tesla boss Elon Musk in the US.
Tesla boss Elon Musk, who is also a part of the Donald Trump administration in the US, is expected to call on PM Narendra Modi during the latter’s visit to the United States this week. Musk, currently heading the US Government’s newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is expected to seek a level playing field with domestic car manufacturers in India before beginning retail operations. There are talks that the US government delegation may push for lower duties on importing completely built-up units (CBU) of electric cars in India. The Indian government had introduced a special scheme for manufacturing electric cars in the country last year to woo global electric car makers like Tesla, but the company has not participated in any recent stakeholder meetings. Tesla is expected to launch its most affordable electric car by June 2025 and Musk may introduce this model in India. But, Tesla is seeking more time to consider manufacturing in India.
